All good things must come to an end…

I can’t believe it is September and I’m back in England already! My experience has been amazing though not without some issues though I won’t go into the joy of a tropical ulcer!

I cannot believe I have seen the amazing archipelago of Halong Bay and the terraced rice paddies of Sapa in Vietnam, tracked leopards and seen flying foxes in the forests of Cambodia, not to mention some terrifying spiders, experienced the bustle of Bangkok’s weekend markets as well as partied on Thailand’s island of Koh Samet.

As a volunteer on a conservation project and a trail participant I’d definitely say I got the best of both worlds. I got to take part in scientific research; something I hadn’t done before and from which I learnt valuable skills, and I also got to experience what it’s like to be a backpacker with all the fun of a nomadic lifestyle without the hassle of having to arrange it myself! I even got a beer t-shirt which must mean I’m a qualified backpacker!

Overall though, it’s certainly something everyone should do. Pack a bag and take off people! Just remember that all good things must come to an end eventually…
